Player 1 Video Game Bar Engagement Photos in Orlando | Kaitlyn & Daniel

Engagement photos do not have to mean getting dressed up and heading to a park, garden, or field. Those locations can be absolutely beautiful, but they are not the only way to tell your story.

Kaitlyn and Daniel are both big gamers, so when it came time for their engagement session, Player 1 Video Game Bar in Orlando was such a fun choice for them. Instead of trying to make their session fit into what engagement photos are "supposed" to look like, we photographed them in an environment that actually felt like them.

And honestly, that is one of my favorite things about engagement sessions. There really are no rules.

Kaitlyn & Daniel's Player 1 Video Game Bar Engagement Session

For Kaitlyn and Daniel, playing video games together is something they genuinely enjoy, which made an arcade such a natural setting for their photos. Player 1 gave us this completely different environment filled with arcade cabinets, colorful lights, games, and plenty of opportunities for them to actually interact with each other instead of spending the entire session posing for the camera.

We were also able to photograph inside Player 1 for about an hour before they opened, which was amazing. Having the space to ourselves meant we could move throughout the arcade, use different games and areas of the bar, and really take advantage of all of those colorful lights without having to work around a crowd.

We photographed Kaitlyn and Daniel playing games together, hanging out at the bar, laughing with each other, and of course mixed in plenty of portraits along the way. The result feels completely different from a traditional outdoor Orlando engagement session, and that is exactly what I love about it.

Your Engagement Photos Should Feel Like You

One of the first things I tell couples when we start planning their engagement photos is that the location does not have to be somewhere that looks like an "engagement photo location."

Instead, think about what the two of you actually enjoy doing together.

If you love video games, let's go to an arcade. If you are huge Halloween Horror Nights fans, let's photograph your engagement session at Halloween Horror Nights. If Universal Orlando is your happy place, let's spend the evening exploring Universal Studios. If you are excited about Epic Universe, that can become part of your story too.

And it does not even have to be something as elaborate as a theme park.

Maybe you have a favorite coffee shop where you spend your Saturday mornings. Maybe you always go out for ice cream together. Maybe you love tacos and want to start your session at your favorite local restaurant. We could explore downtown Orlando, go to a carnival, find a cool arcade, or photograph an ordinary date night.

Your engagement session could even happen at home. If one of your favorite things to do together is make homemade pizza, cook dinner, play board games, or curl up on the couch with your pets, there is absolutely no reason that cannot become part of your engagement photos.

The location does not have to be traditionally romantic. It just needs to give us an environment where you can be yourselves.

Unconventional Orlando Engagement Photo Ideas

Orlando gives us so many possibilities for engagement photography because there is much more here than beautiful parks and gardens. When couples start thinking about their engagement session as an experience instead of simply choosing a pretty backdrop, the possibilities open up quickly.

Some unconventional engagement session ideas could include:

  • An arcade or video game bar
  • Universal Studios or another Universal Orlando experience
  • Halloween Horror Nights
  • Epic Universe
  • A carnival or fair
  • A coffee shop
  • An ice cream shop
  • Your favorite restaurant or casual date-night spot
  • A downtown Orlando date night
  • A brewery or bar you love
  • A bookstore or record store
  • Cooking or baking together at home
  • A hobby or activity you regularly do together

Some locations require permission, admission, photography fees, or advance arrangements, so we always want to look into the logistics before deciding on a final plan. But I never want a couple to rule out an idea simply because it does not look like a traditional engagement session.

What If You Do Want Beautiful Outdoor Engagement Photos?

Then we absolutely do that!

I love photographing engagement sessions at parks, gardens, natural springs, beaches, downtown areas, and other beautiful outdoor locations throughout Central Florida. There is a reason those locations are popular. Gorgeous natural light, greenery, water, architecture, and Florida sunsets can create incredible photographs.

The difference is that I want you to choose that setting because you actually love it, not because you feel like engagement photos are required to happen there.

If spending an evening walking through a beautiful garden sounds exactly like the two of you, perfect. If standing in a field feels completely foreign but battling each other at an arcade game sounds like your ideal date night, let's go find an arcade.

There is no single "right" type of engagement session.

If you are still deciding what kind of setting fits you best, my Best Orlando Engagement Photo Locations guide has even more ideas throughout Orlando and Central Florida.

Activities Make Engagement Sessions Feel More Natural

Another reason I love sessions like Kaitlyn and Daniel's is that having something to do takes some of the pressure off being photographed.

You do not have to spend an entire hour wondering what to do with your hands or staring into the camera. You can play a game, compete with each other, tease each other, grab a drink, walk around, and actually have fun together. I can give you direction when you need it while also photographing the real interactions happening in between.

That balance is a huge part of the way I photograph engagement sessions. I will absolutely help with posing and make sure you look your best, but I also want room for the candid expressions and little moments that happen naturally.

Kaitlyn and Daniel had the arcade around them to interact with throughout their session, which gave us so much variety. Some photographs feel more editorial and intentionally posed, while others are simply the two of them laughing and playing together.

That combination is what makes an engagement gallery feel like a story instead of a collection of poses.

Planning an Engagement Session at Universal Orlando

For couples who love theme parks, Universal Orlando can also open up some really fun possibilities for engagement photos. Universal Studios, Halloween Horror Nights, and Epic Universe can give us completely different environments depending on your personalities and the experience you want.

A theme park engagement session is especially fun for couples who already spend time there together. Instead of choosing a location simply because it photographs well, you get photographs connected to something you genuinely share.

Theme park sessions also give us built-in activities, movement, architecture, colorful environments, nighttime lights, and plenty of opportunities for candid photographs along with more traditional portraits.

Because park policies, operating hours, ticket requirements, special events, and photography rules can change, we will always plan the logistics of a Universal Orlando engagement session in advance.

How Do You Choose the Right Engagement Photo Location?

If you have no idea where you want to take your engagement photos, start by forgetting about photography for a minute.

Think about the two of you.

What does a fun Saturday look like? Where do you go on dates? What are you both obsessed with? What do you laugh about? What hobby do you share? Is there somewhere in Orlando that feels like your place?

Those answers can lead us somewhere much more personal than simply searching for the prettiest engagement photo location nearby.

Sometimes the answer will still be a gorgeous park at sunset, and that is wonderful. Other times it might lead us to an arcade filled with X-Men games and neon lights before opening time.

Kaitlyn and Daniel's Player 1 engagement session is a perfect example of why I love giving couples the freedom to think outside the traditional engagement-session box.

Orlando Engagement Photography That Actually Feels Like You

As an Orlando engagement photographer, my goal is not to make every couple's session look the same. I want to create photographs that still feel like you years from now.

That means helping with posing when you need it, looking for beautiful light, creating editorial portraits, and also giving you enough room to forget about the camera and enjoy being together.

Whether that happens at an arcade like Player 1, walking through downtown Orlando, exploring Universal, hanging out at your favorite date-night spot, or surrounded by beautiful Florida scenery is completely up to you.

You can see more examples of my approach in my Orlando engagement photography portfolio, or browse my Orlando engagement location guide for even more inspiration.

If you are planning an engagement session and have an idea that feels a little weird, different, nerdy, unconventional, or completely unlike the engagement photos you normally see online, please tell me. Those are usually the ideas I get the most excited about.

Your engagement photos do not have to look like everyone else's. They should look like the two of you.
