Cory & Alex's Bok Tower Gardens Wedding Photography in Lake Wales, Polk County, Orlando, Florida

A Dream Wedding at the Historic Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales

Nestled within Polk County’s most enchanting landscape, Cory and Alex’s Bok Tower Gardens wedding was a perfect fusion of elegance, history, and heartfelt emotion. As a wedding photographer who adores Florida’s historic garden venues, capturing their day at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales felt like stepping into a storybook. The mix of old-world charm, manicured greenery, and the majestic Singing Tower provided a breathtaking canvas for timeless wedding photography.

Getting Ready in the Bok Tower Bridal Suite

Soft Light, Sentimental Moments & Thoughtful Details

The morning began in the intimate bridal suite at Bok Tower Gardens, where natural window light streamed in and reflected off the bride’s carefully chosen accessories—sparkling jewelry, satin heels, and an elegant lace gown. Every detail was thoughtfully styled, including a custom wooden hanger engraved with the iconic Bok Tower, setting the tone for a day infused with meaningful touches.

Mother-Daughter Moments Before “I Do”

One of the most touching parts of the morning was watching the bride’s mother help with the finishing touches—securing the veil, adjusting the train, and taking a deep breath together before walking out. These private, heartfelt exchanges are what make getting ready photos so memorable and deeply emotional.

The First Look: Quiet Emotion Amid Historic Gardens

The Fountain Courtyard Reveal

Cory and Alex chose the fountain courtyard at Bok Tower for their first look, surrounded by lush greenery and soft, overcast light that created a romantic, cinematic glow. As the groom turned to see his bride, the moment was filled with laughter, tears, and a shared realization that this was finally their day.

Exploring the Gardens Before the Ceremony

Because they chose a first look, we were able to explore multiple parts of the property—the Exedra overlook, shaded pathways, and the reflection pool near the Singing Tower—for portraits that showcased the vast beauty of Bok Tower Gardens. The relaxed pace allowed us to create a gallery filled with both emotional candids and editorial, magazine-worthy portraits.

Why Choose a First Look at Bok Tower Gardens?

Emotional Connection Meets Perfect Timing

Doing a first look at this venue gives couples the chance to take advantage of its sprawling grounds without rushing after the ceremony. It also allows you to share an intimate, uninterrupted moment before the festivities begin—a chance to calm nerves, exchange gifts, or even read private vows.

More Photos, Less Stress

From a wedding photography perspective, first looks also mean more time for portraits, less pressure on the post-ceremony timeline, and a smoother transition into cocktail hour. With the ever-changing Florida weather, it’s a huge advantage to capture portraits while the skies are cooperative.

The Ceremony: Historic Charm and Heartfelt Traditions

Vows in the Shadow of the Singing Tower

The ceremony took place beneath the majestic Singing Tower, surrounded by tropical gardens and the soothing sound of carillon bells echoing in the distance. The bride’s maid of honor officiated the ceremony, adding a deeply personal touch that made the moment even more meaningful.

A Playful Flower Boy and Personalized Vows

The couple’s sense of humor shone through when one of the groomsmen made a surprise appearance as the flower boy, tossing petals with enthusiasm to everyone’s delight. The ceremony continued with custom vow books, tearful promises, and laughter shared among family and friends.

The Hand-Fasting Ceremony: A Timeless Symbol of Unity

What Is Hand-Fasting?

To honor Celtic tradition, the couple included a hand-fasting ritual, where their hands were gently tied with ribbon to symbolize unity and eternal love. This ancient practice is the origin of the phrase “tying the knot.” Each ribbon color represented an element of their relationship—love, trust, and lifelong partnership.

Symbolism and Visual Storytelling

Photographically, hand-fasting ceremonies are breathtaking: the ribbons against lush greenery, the emotion in each glance, and the visual poetry of two lives intertwined. It’s a tradition that blends seamlessly with the natural, romantic atmosphere of Bok Tower Gardens weddings.

Wedding Party Portraits: Fun, Friendship, and Florida Sunshine

Cory and Alex’s bridal party brought contagious energy! We captured a mix of classic portraits and fun, candid moments—spins, laughter, and inside jokes that showcased their personalities. Florida’s mild light filtering through the garden trees gave every image that soft, painterly quality that defines my Central Florida photography style.

Recreating the Proposal Spot

A particularly sweet touch: we revisited the exact location where the groom had proposed, recreating that milestone moment within their wedding portraits. This symbolic gesture tied their story together beautifully, blending past and present in one heartfelt frame.

The Reception: Elegant Details and Unforgettable Moments

Ambient Lighting and Unique Decor

As the sun set over Lake Wales, guests entered a reception space glowing with 3D-printed Bok Tower centerpieces—each hand-painted and softly illuminated. The gentle light created a warm, enchanting atmosphere that reflected the couple’s creativity and deep connection to the venue.

Personal Touches and Playful Additions

A mirrored seating chart greeted guests with timeless elegance, while a colorful candy bar and playful seal cake toppers brought whimsy to the evening. Every design choice reflected the couple’s joyful personalities and their ability to blend tradition with originality.

Meaningful Reception Traditions

Grand Entrance, First Dances, and Family Moments

The newlyweds made a joyful grand entrance, followed by their emotional first dance, and heartfelt father-daughter and mother-son dances. Each moment reflected gratitude, family bonds, and the joy of two families becoming one.

Speeches and Laughter

The toasts and speeches brought a perfect mix of laughter and tears, weaving stories from childhood to courtship. Emotional reactions from guests are some of the most powerful moments to capture—they reflect the collective love surrounding the couple.

The Anniversary Dance and Bouquet Game

Instead of a traditional bouquet toss, the bride hosted a string bouquet game where each single guest held a ribbon connected to the bouquet. With each round, one ribbon was snipped until one remained—creating suspense and laughter while keeping the tradition fun and modern.

Late-Night Fun and Guest Interaction

During dinner, each table came up for a group portrait with the couple—creating personalized keepsakes for guests while allowing Cory and Alex to connect with everyone. This modern twist made the evening flow seamlessly and ensured no one was left out.

Cake Cutting, Candy Bar & Sweet Endings

The cake cutting (complete with frosting-filled laughter) and donut-and-candy dessert bar provided both visual and culinary delight. From sparkling lights to smiling faces, every detail added to the story of a night filled with joy.

Why Bok Tower Gardens Is One of Florida’s Most Iconic Wedding Venues

Historic Beauty and Timeless Architecture

Bok Tower Gardens was established in 1929 by Pulitzer Prize winner Edward W. Bok, and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., the son of the visionary who created Central Park. The 205-foot Singing Tower, made of pink marble and coquina stone, is one of Florida’s most striking historic landmarks and adds architectural grandeur to every frame.

A Nature-Lover’s Dream Wedding Setting

The gardens span over 250 acres of lush landscapes filled with native flora, reflection pools, and winding pathways. Everywhere you turn offers a new opportunity for breathtaking Florida garden wedding photography.

Carillon Music for an Ethereal Ceremony Soundtrack

Couples can incorporate the live carillon music into their ceremony, creating an atmosphere that’s peaceful, elegant, and unforgettable. The melodic chimes drifting through the gardens add an auditory magic unmatched by any other Orlando-area wedding venue.

Versatility for Ceremonies and Portraits

Whether couples prefer a small, intimate garden ceremony or a grand affair near the reflection pool, Bok Tower Gardens offers flexibility for every style. The Exedra overlook, Pinewood Estate, and Singing Tower lawn are all stunning backdrops for portraits and ceremonies alike.

Privacy, Serenity, and Exclusivity

Unlike busier venues, Bok Tower Gardens provides a tranquil, private setting that feels like an escape from the world. It’s a rare gem for couples seeking an intimate wedding surrounded by nature and historic charm.
